ACCEPTANCES FOR TO-DAY. Auckland, Jan. 30. The Takapuna Jockey Club has received the following acceptances for the second day of its summer meeting: — MOANA HANDICAP.

DOWN THE LINE. Rangitikei sportsmen rejoiced on Wednesday when the Bulls-traiued Marjoram, well ridden by R. Coveney, ran in a comfortable winner in the Pahiatua Gold Cup. Trainer A. E. Neale has had a good run of successes with Elysianor and Marjoram this season, and credit is due to him for the condition in which he turns his horses out. * * * . Democratic is galloping attractively at Awapuni, and is to be sent up to the Taranaki meeting. He was unlucky at Ashhurst, but ran a close third after meeting with interference, and may be worth remembering for flat handicaps next week. ..#• * * * * First Ruler is being schooled over the small fences at Awapuni, and shows an aptitude for the game. Harry Burt is ■ her mentor, and there is little doubt that when seasoned she will make good at hurdling. Blue Paper, who beat a smart field in the concluding event at the Wellington, is looking bright and well, and now that she has struck form, she should be heard of in winning vein shortly. Blue Paper will be a runner at New Plymouth. # # * w Kilorell scored a long overdue win at Pahiattia on Wednesday, and Messrs. Kelly and Lassen, joint owners, were quite prepared for the Kilbroney gelding’s victory after running second to Briar Root at Aslihurst. # * # * A trial at hurdle racing does not appear to have impaired the flat prospects of Borsalene. In fact, it appears to have improved her staying powers, and her success at Pahiatua, following on her second at Ashhurst over fences, suggests that she . will prove “tough” this autumn. . Ashhurst maiden form panned out well at Pahiatua. Roundclay not being a runner, the public made no mistake in going for General Gas and Spearform, who had run second and third respectively to the useful Paiko at Ashhurst, and they paid the dividends in the order anticipated. On the second day at Pahiatua everybody was waiting for the grey, Mirabilary, w r ho finished fourth in a° good field at* the Manawatu summer meeting. # a « * Being unable to get suitable quarters in Palmerston North, opposition being shown to the erection of racing stables on the property purchased, Mr. W. H. Gaisford’s team has been transferred to Woodville, where Geo. Jones will train them in future. Jones has se’cured Mr. Harold Connop’s stables. * * * Mr. T. H. Lowry has not made up his mind, to relinquish racing, as stated in an exchange, but has engaged R. Alexander to act as private trainer for him. Alexander was responsible for the success of the Corry team, Rabbi, Make Up, Imateagirl, etc., and is one of the rising trainers at present. He should do well with Mr. Lowry’s team. **• # * That Moorland’s win at Foxton was no fluke he proved by upsetting a hotlybacked proposition in Bonogne at Pahiatua on Wednesday. Moorland, must be in his tenth year, and H. Prichard has the old chap ‘looking very well in spite of his age. * «■ • «■ . * After declaration of first forfeits for the Jackson Stakes the. following hold their places: —Paganelli, lenterden, Lady Quex, Ciniabue, Chrysology, Hunting 'Cry, Jenny Diver, Arisus, Monaloff, Paiko and the* Weathervane-Linnet colt. «= * * Down the line sports are pleased to see ‘-Bill” Price’s ability as a starter being recognised by racing clubs. At Awapuni and at Trentham his work was clean and neat, and the Taranaki Jockey Club is fortunate in its selection of the capable little Wanganui man to act in place of Mr. C. O’Connor, who is for the time being laid aside through eye trouble. Elicit was given a run in the maiden at Ashhurst, and finished fifth, running on strongly at the end. On that show ing Mrs. MacDonald should have hopes of winning a good race with the Elysian gelding in the early autumn. Perhaps it wiU be at Wanganui. TURF TOPICS. (Bv “Moturoa.”) Lackham went to the slud. Ashhurst was a “come-back.” * * * * There he raced very big. a >» « * He surprised Pahiatua punters. w Teri has won at last—is there more here? 9 9 « « “Bill” Emeny was confident—good luck to him. « * * « The Taranaki sportsman always sends the word round. # # * * Lady Quex will carry a ton of money at New Plymouth. # Well, Prodice is a great mare —Frank Loomb has done well. The Te Awamutu trainer-owner runs his horses the right way. * Mithra was the “oil” for Wellington but missed and was let go on Wednesday. ’’ « w « # “Stan” Bagby now rides for Jamieson, but he did not please Auckland critics. * * * * “Stan” rides a good, strong race when required and should soon make amends. I ## * * They were in on Bonogne at Pahiatua, but Moorland upset the bonanza expected. # # « « “Dick” Johnson’s trip has been an expensive one, but “it s a long' road # # * * To-morrow we will have the Taranaki gathering to argue over—what prospects? 1 # * Manv punters are’ wondering if Pegaway will make the trip—he is a class walloper. b f. * * * To Lady Quex the Taranaki punters hancr loyally and she owes them not one iota. # * # « She will carry a lot of money if she starts in the Taranaki Stakes. # * * * Dick Johnson bought Domestic Trouble at Pal :Q f'ia for 40 guineas—trouble here?
