SCHOOL COMMITTEE’S WORK. A ’ meeting of the Inglewood school committee was held on Wednesday evening; present: Messrs. Grant (in the chair), Kirk (secretary), Braybrooke, M. Sutherland, P. Speechly, W. Armstrong, Fcaver and Wanklyn. The secretary reported that the education board had agreed to do repairs to the fireplaces, windows and spouting. Notice was received from the board that Miss Gernhoefer, additional assistant, Miss Gorrie, probationer assistant, and Miss Brabrant, relieving assistant, had been appointed to Inglewood school A subsidy of £6 for' fuel and £29 for the library was received from the board. An account of £5 was received from the Inglewood Borough Council for water supply and the secretary was instructed to write to the board about payment. In regard to the school’s annual picnic, to be held at Ngamotu beach on February 6, the secretary stated that final arrangements had been made for the special train.- It was decided to obtain 400 tickets at 2s 6d, 400 at Is and 50 at Is 3d and Messrs Grant and Armstrong were appointed to sell the tickets on the platform. ■ It was decided that all teachers should be in attendance on the station platforms. Mr. Armstrong suggested that some children could not afford to go to the picnic, and it was decided that the headmaster should ascertain then names and they should b(\ helped. The secretary' reported that since the committee had previously met the children had collected £2l 3s at the school’s breaking-up. It was decided to ask the nightwatchman to look after school property as the secretary reported that -the school had been broken into twice during the holidays. It was also resolved to write to the police on the subject.
