NEW PLYMOUTH MARKETS. New Plymouth market prices this

SALES OF BLENHEIM OILS. ■BORE DOWN 1627 FEET. Sales of Blenheim oil shares are understood to have taken place lately at £2, £2 2s 6d and £2 ss. According to the official report placed before the Taranaki Steck Exchange yesterday, the Blenheim bore is now reamed to the bottom of the pilot hole 1627 feet. Drilling is being continued to ■jthe full size, '63in, by the rotary process. SHAREMARKET- TRANSACTIONS. Christchurch, January 30.—. A good deal of selling pressure was noticeable -on the Stock Exchange yesterday, and many investment lines fell in price, including -Commonwealth loans, bank and industrial shares. The Commonwealth 5} per cent, bonds (1941) rose 2s 6d, but the same (1935) fell five shillings, and 5£ per cents. (1939) declined 6s 3d. Others down were Bank of New South Wales, 22s 6d; Union Bank of Australia, 16s 3d; Colonial Sugar, 7s 6d. LONDON WOOL SALES. IMPROVING TONE EVIDENT. London, Jan. 29. At the wool sales 7969 bales were offered, of which 2523 were from N.Z. There was a good selection of greasy Merinos, a few scoureds and a good offering of greasy crossbreds. The tone is improving and there is good competition at full late rates, tending in sellers’ favour. The New Zealand greasy crossbred clip Mopopeka brought: Average lL}d, top price 12d. LIVESTOCK MARKETS. GOOD ADDINGTON SALE. VALUES FIRM GENERALLY. Christchurch, Jan. 29. Values remained firm for all sections at the weekly metropolitan market at Addington to-day, and advances on last week’s rates were recorded in fat cattle, store lambs, fat lambs and dairy cattle. Store Sheep. —The entry of store lamb was larger than last week, and included West Coast and Chatham Islands lines. The quality was improved, and there was a good sale. There was a good entry of adult sheep, but the quality was indifferent. Prices showed little alteration on last week’s sale. Values were: Extra prime lambs, to 31s Id; prime lambs, 27s to 295; medium lambs, 23s to 265; light lambs, 19s to 225. Fat sheep.—A small entry. The sale was a good one, with values on a par with last week’s rates. Values were; Extra prime wethers, to 35s Id; prime wethers, 31s to 335; medium wethers, 26s 6d to 30s; light wethers, 23s lOd to 265; extra prime ewes, to 30s 4d; prime ewes, 25s to 295; ordinary ewes, 20s to 245; light ewes, to 18s. Fat Cattle. —An entry of 400 head, with the quality very good. Competition was keen, and values firmed by fl and up to .£1 10s per head for steers, £1 a head for heifers, and 10s to fl for cows. Best medium-weight prime beef made from 44s to 48s per 1091 b; good medium weight prime beef made from 4<)s to 43s per lOOlb; heavy steer beef, 40s to 42s 6d; good cow beef, to 395; secondary, 32s to 355; and light and rough to 295. Values were: Extra heavy prime steers, to £24 2s 6d; heavy prime steers. £lB 10s to £2l 10s; medium weight prime steers, £l7 to £10; ordinary steers, £l3 to £l6; light steers, £lO to £l2 10s; extra prime heifers, to £l6 2s Gd; prime heifers, £l3 10s to £l5; ordinary heifers, £ll to £l3; light heifers, £7 10s to £lO 10s; extra prime cows, to £l6 12s 6d; prime cows, £l3 to £l4 10s; medium eows, £lO to £l2 10s;' light and aged, £6 to £9 10s.

Dairy Cattle. —The entry numbered 63 head, comprising some good lines of heifers and a few good cows. Prices were £1 to £1 10s in advance of last week’s rates. Values were: Best second and third calyers, £94 to £l5 os; good to medium, £lO to £l3 10s; others, £5 to £9; good heifers, £ll to £l3 10s; others, £8 to £lO 10s. Vealers were in short supply and anything good was keenly sought after at an advance on last week’s rates.

Graziers competed .briskly for all the other sorts. Top price was £lO. Good vealers made from £4 5s to £5 ss; best calves, £2 13s to £3 8s; medium, 40s to 50s; others, from 17s to 38s.

Store Cattle.—-A good sale of a medium-sized entry. Values showed no change. Three-year-old steers brought £lO 17s; good 18-months to three-year-old heifers sold at up to £8 ss; steers, to £lO 7s; good cows, to £8; potting bulls, £4 10s to £l4 6s. Fat Pigs.—A large yarding of porkers met with keen competition, but prices eased by from 5s to 8s a head. Baconers sold at last week’s rates. Values were: Choppers, 50s to £7 Is; baconers, £3 10s to £6 0s 6d; average price per lb. 7d to 8d; porkers, 48s to £3 7s; average price per lb, 8d to 9d. Store Pigs. —A small entry and keen competition at rates equal to those of last week. Values were: Stores, 28s to 488; slips, 25s to 275; weaners, 22s to 265. .. BURNSIDE PRICES DOWN. CATTLE VALUES, SLUMP. Dunedin, Jan. 29. Fat cattle slumped badly at the Burnside stock sales to-day, and stores met with a severe setback also, while fat sheep and lambs experienced a far from satisfactory sale. There were about 187 head of fat cattle yarded, comprising mostly handy weights,' with only a small percentage of cows and heifers. The market was unpromising from the start, and at the close it was found that values had suffered a general decline of from 30s to 40s per head. The best heavy weight bullocks made to £22 2s Gd; prime from £l6 to £l7; and light and medium, from £l2 to £l5. Tne best of the cows and heifers brought to ‘ £l4 2s 6d, and others ranged from £8 to £ll 10s. Store cattle -could not hold last week’s level. The' entry was made up prin.ci pally of cows and heifers, these declining by about 20s per head. Good young steers sold fairly well. ■ The fat sheep penning numbered over 1900, mostly medium to prime wethers and ewes, with only occasional lines of heavyweight. The demand was very dull, only export sorts remaining firm. All heavy stuff was cheaper by about Is Gd or 2s per head. The best prices for wethers were in the vicinity of 345, and the heaviest prime ewes made up to 26s 6d. Prime wethers were worth as much as 295; and light and medium sold for from 18s to 2Gs. Light and medium ewes brought from 17s to 225. The fat lamb entry numbered 893 head of medium quality lines, there being only a few pens of good primes. Choice lines sold 1 well at late rates, but anything else was hard to quit at recent prices: The best sorts brought up to 31 s; prime, to 255; other lines, 14s •to ■ 20s. The pig entry was small, but the demand was very fair, and values were generally on a par with those of last week. VALUES AT JOHNSONVILLE. KEEN DEMAND FOR VEALERS. At the Johnsonville stock sale on Tuesday, • Wright, .Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., submitted ah average yarding of cattle and a large yarding of sheep. The cattle comprised good quality heavy bullocks, with a few lighter sorts. A consignment of cows also came forward. A good sals resulted, prices showing no alteration on late rates. Vealers met with keen demand. The quality of the sheep was not up to the usual standard, and this, combined with the fact that skin values have declined, caused prices to show an easing on late rates, particularly for wethers. Ewes sold up to last week’s rates and lambs met with keen competition.
