DOUBLE SHIFTS WORKING

DON’S SPEED CAR. IMMENSE ENGINES IN PLACE. British Wireless. Re«. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Jan. IG. The 4000 horse-power Sunbeam motorear with which Kaye Don will, at Daytona, Florida, in srsvcli, endeavour to - lower Sir Henry Segrave’s land speed record of 231.36 miles an hour, is approaching completion at Wolverhampton. Two immense engines, coupled in tandem, are in place in the frame. The machine must be ready for shipment to America in the middle of next month, and the staff at Wolverhampton works are engaged on double shifts to complete it. The two engines of the Car occupy aearly all the space between the front mid rear axles, leaving just enough room for the driver’s seat. The car, which weighs 24 tons, is 25ft long overall. Many ingenious devices have been introduced to reduce wind resistance, in overcoming which the designer, Louis Coatelen, estimates that 95 per cent, of the enormous power of the car will be vbsorbed.
