WENDY’S DRESSMAKERS
iA Wendy Lady has asked for instruciions for making embroidered raffia able mats. Now they make the loveiest present, and just think how pleased mother or auntie will be if you make Bier a set. Four smaller ones foi the rotates, and two large’’, for dishc.?. er liable centre, will form u nice little group. ' The plate mat is i circle of raffia Hflo'th, or coarse-mesh canvas, about 8 jnches across. Pencil round an upturnpl plate to get the size, and turn over the raw edges at once. Then buttonhole round with green raffia. Diagram & shows you the stitch to use. Fili in i&be centre of the mat with circles of dif-
sizes, some t-.ro inches across, others LI inches, and so eii; these are j£oing to represent (lowers,’and, when till the canvas is covered with circles, you can begin embroidering them. * Use pink and blue and purple, orange, {lemon, red and brown for the diifercnt flowers, with a little black for some (Of the centres, and green to fill in the ►paces between, to suggest foliage. Work some'of [he blossoms in buttonjhole stitch, like Diagram B, and do the Others with straight stitches, like Dialgram -A. Diagram C shows you just Jiow to fill in with green when all the Howers are finished. (Press the mat under a damn cloth,’ bn the wrong side, using a coolish iron; jtnd then line it with a circle of casejnent cloth cut to fit, the raw edges turned in, and slip-stitched invisibly jo the outer edge of buttonholing. You make the dish mat and the table Centre in exactly the same way, only (having the foundation circle, about 10 Inches across. If you have time, you plight make some wee mats, about four Judies across, for glasses. The whole eflect of the finished set is very pretty on a plain polished table. liVe’ve' just made some mats for the (Wendy Hut, and we feel extremely jju'oud of them.---‘Wendy’s Dressmaker.
