THE SCALLOP VOGUE.

INTERIOR DECORATIONS. . (By M. Hamilton.—Special to News). . We have had ’ scallop-trimmed froeks for several seasons, but we have, for the most’part, failed to recognise the fact that scallops applied to fiirjpjningf' are equally effective and acceyuble. How often is ■ the housewife puzzled «.s to the trimming of a curtain. To invest in looped fringe or woven holering means an expense which may se<fti oddly 9iit of proportion to the vali?f Of the curtains themselves. To embroidfer them or to give them applique decorations may mean many hours of Ko why not resort to the expedient v. scalloped borders bound with braid of contrasting hue ?

Thick fabrics demand broader scallops than finer ones. Thus, a curtain of heavy linen should be treated more boldly than one of delicate tafl'etas. The best method of drafting out the series of scallops is to use the rim of a saucer or. small plate as a guide, following out the curve in pencil if the curtain be light in colour, or with a line camel's hair brush dipped in Chinese white if it be dark. Cut with very sharp scissors, dealing only with a couple of scallops at a time, in ease the stuff should ravel. Then, having doubled the braid and pressed it flat with a warm iron to facilitate the binding, tack it neatly round the edges and finally stitch it in the sewing-machine. The pelmet should be treated similarly, but if -the window is narrow’ in proportion to height' it is a good plan to employ narrower scallops. Nothing makes a prettier finish to a cushion’ cover than a scalloped frill'bf silk.
