CANADA’S COMMISSIONER

ARRIVAL IN NEW ZEALAND.

PROSPECTS FOR EMPIRE TRADING.

By Telegraph-—Press Association. Auckland, Dec. 30.

Mr. 11. L. E. Pricsman, assistant Canadian Trade Commissioner to New Zealand, arrived by tho Aorangi on Sunday., He is a comparatively young man, and was for 15 years on the staff of the Canadian Bank of Commerce. He joined tho Canadian Department of Trade and Commerce early this year, and this is his fli>s.t overseas appointment. Ho says there is in Canada a general feeling in favour of reciprocal trade, and as it is being carefully fostered, every country in tho Empire should benefit. Indeed, during recent years the demand for English goods has increased to such an extent in Canada that shopkeepers who previously stocked foreign articles have been compelled to discard them. Dairy farming in Canada had not grown to any great extent, and New Zealand exporters have established themselves in a sound position. Mr. J. Hi, McDonald, head of the Canadian Lumber Commission, a through passenger to Sydney by the Aorangi, states that after spending some time in Australia the commission will return to N / Zealand to investigate the lumber trade and other matters. What Canada would like to sec was an economic conference between Canada, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia, to bo hold in this part of the, Pacific, to discuss trade, commerce, finance and shipping to mutual advantage.
