THIRD DAY AT MARTON

OUTSIZE FIELDS ENGAGED • CUP RACE NOW PROMISES WELL. CASHIER IS NOMINAL FAVOURITE. PUBLIC ARE SET DIFFICULT TASK. (By “Moturoa.”) ffho Marton Jockey Club has been fortunate in drawing* the bulk of the horses from Manawatu, but the big fields will stand a lot of scratchings. Form at Awapuni was somewhat puzzling and the public will not find it an easy task to sort out winners at Marton • to-morrow. At 11.45 a.m. the field will lino up for the TRIAL PLATE. Six furlongs and 27 yardA

Look Out is bred the right way, being a half-sister to Watch Officer. Then Night Dew and Kilorell ran well at Awapuni. Equitant showed pace last season. Whcnuatonga, Leisure and Valma have private reputations. Probably the public will decide in favour of Kilorell, Night Dew and Equitant. FIRST HURDLES. LJ miles.

Aurora Borealis ran three good races >t Awapuni, concluding with a win. Skyrider won at Foxton and Rod Lane was first at Woodville. Vinella should hold the others safe, but the actual « favourite looks -like being Aurora Borealis. JUVENILE HANDICAP. Five furlongs.

Hunting Boy raced honestly last week and is sure to go a good race, but at the weights Acora makes more appeal to many. Blue Paper has speed, but the maiden event may bo Equitant’a mis* alon. Statuary haa a couple of wins to his credit lately and Rule Britannia scored on Boxing Day. Lord Thomond and Arisus are a pair of two-year-olds who should hold Arrowzone safe, and Catherine,of Aragon may be the best of the others. ' In a good betting race Arbus may be preform'd to Arora and Statuary. MARTON CUP.

Cashier ran his best race this season when ho finished a good second to Seatown in the Manawatu Cup and that oiYorb was promising. Iloylake scored well on the second day and the grey horse is a good one when caught, in galloping mood the Star Area is racing below form, but First Acre went well in the Manawatu Cup. The distance may bo too far for Arrow Lad, but Otari and Singleton hang on well. Atholspcar may go to Wairapa, and ot the others Full Mark may be the one to surprise. In a great betting race it would occasion no surprise to followers of form to see the public favouring Cashier, Ilovlake and Full Mark. DASH HACK HANDICAP. Six furlongs and 27 yards.

Glenartney was backed and beaten at Awapuni, but the Marton course should suit him much better. Statuary is a arnarfc galloper, but ho has a prior engagement, and then Limosin and Warfillo can also go a good “six.” Habit won at Waipukurau and may be the best of those on the minimum. ProBitbly Glenartney will have a slight call over the rest of the field when the machine closes. RAILWAY HANDICAP.

If the Raider wore shirted here he Would no doubt be the elect of the public, but ho is expected to race at Auckland. Freehold is smart, but now that Keddar haa struck form he should hold the Absurd gelding safe. The distance may not be far enough for Juggle, and Royal Duke and Callanniore arc also engaged on the other side of the Island, though of the pair Callanniore would make the greater appeal. Hunting Boy will not be neglected, but it would bo surprising if the public did not settle on Keddar as a good favourite’. ’ NEW YEAR HACK HANDICAP. One mile and 137 yards.

Thrift ran a great race at Woodville Und was considered by many a good thing beaten. Masher and Llmosa can both go this distance and Democratic, l?ire Acre and Goldlike all stay on well. Of the others Nightdew, if raced at Marton, would claim most support. However, form points to the fancy' of the public inclining towards Thrift and Limosa. 'The winner will bo hard for the public to sort out in the tinal event of the day, the — STEWARDS’ HANDICAP.

Keddar will surely start in the shorter race, where he is reasonably treated, but if he took his place in this field the public would not have to look far for the favourite. Gold Cure goes well for seven and Roi de Vai and Ramoses are also fair over this journey. Manly will most likely race at Stratford, but High Falutin’ is certain to be found amongst this field. He ran a good race last week and he is one of those gallopers that improve with racing. Malayan is a new one, but Avro and Briar Root should not lack a big following. With Keddar out of the way, the public will most likely put in heavily for High Faultin’, Briar Root and Avro. * RACING AT HAWKE’S BAY FIELDS LIKELY TO BE VERY SMALL. REVIEW OF RECENT FORM. (By “Moturoa.”) The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Clubs first day’s fields reflect the slipping back of thia old club, and with many of the horses carded, engaged at other meetings, fielda promise to be on the small side. OTATARA JUMPERS' FLAT HCP.

King’s Jest will probably be reserved for later in the day, and in his absence there should be money for Delude, Jen and Pale Star. MAHORA MAIDEN' furlongs. Crown Link' Knight of Gold Merry Molody Kaokaoroa Ata Haere Wedding Bella Miss Quex Cook Tino Tama Portray Crown Emblem Blackpool Flake Whlto Trisogne , Pari Golden Area The Perch San Quex San Quex. who ran second to Arrowzone at Waipukurau and Portray, who was runner-up to Te Awha, promise to be heavily backed. HASTINGS HANDICAP.

Zippor is back to form again and he should claim more attention than Sylvan Dell. Cuticle would be the pick of those lower down in the list. . JUVENILE HANDICAP. Five furlongs.

Kahikatoa found the three year-olds just too good on Boxing Day, but ho again should star favourite over Alliance and Rapallo. PRESIDENT'S HANDICAP. ' i U miles.

Merry Damon lias boon racing a long way below his best form lately, but the class ho meets to-day is not very strong, and he is given a chance to make amends for his failures. King's Jest ran a fair second to Shrewd over this distance in October, and he is handily weighted here. Ramoses raced poorly at Awapuni, but High Court took the Amalgamation Handicap at Waipukurau, and is now in form. Of those on the minimum, Balloon, who raced consistently at Manawatu, would have a big following. Summed up, the chances of Balloon and High Court may make most appeal to the publie. WAIPATU HANDICAP. One mile.

There was no mistake about the way that Grattus won at Waipukurau, but To Awha, meeting him on nine pounds better terms cannot fail to impress a large section of the crowd. HAVELOCK FLYING HANDICAP. Six furlongs.

Bernera has not raced for a couple of months, but ho looks to be bettor class than My Own and Cuticle in this event. It is doubtful if there will bo two dividends in the concluding event, the STEWARDS’ HANDICAP.

Kaihoro is also in at Wairarapa, but Dobbin would appeal to the majority, more in any case. Aston ran a great race at Woodville after a twelve months’ absence from the Turf, and a slight improvement on his showing there would make him very hard to head off. Moa Bird is another who will be improved by racing at Woodville and Plimmertou went well at Waipukurau. In what promises to be an even betting race, Aston and Moa Bird should dispute favouritism. WYNDHAM PROSPECTS. GOOD CLASS FIELDS REVIEWED. (By “Moturoa.”) Good class fields arc a feature of the Wyndham Racing Club’s annual fixture sot down to be decided to-morrow, and racing promises to be very interesting. The public will, in the most part, be guided by form shown at Dunedin last week. Beauty Light won nicely the first day at Dunedin, but at tho difference in weights both Dubrois and Red Heather should bo a source of trouble in the Now Year Hurdles. Skysign should find the company in tho Trial Plato weaker than the class he met at Wingatui, but Pink Sunrise and Loretto will not bo neglected. Celerity IT. was not started at Dunedin/and so no guide could be ob-

tained about her form. However, si is a class mare, and has won at both her starts this season. Night Lad ran a race behind Taboo in the Otago Handicap and Circulation was in the fisrht both davs. Probably the totalisator will show that Celerity 11. has more friends than Night Lad. Blue Metal has a lot of’weight with 0.6, but he can travel fast and this consistent galloper looked likely tolbe preferred to Flying Binge and Inevitable in the Mimihau Handicap. Quantum was well at Dunedin on Saturday, and even with a rise ot io pounds in the weights, he looks likelv to find more support. the President s Handicap than Subdivision, but if Blue Metal was reserved, the Paper neldiim would give the others a lot or

trouble. . . . Salmo Salar seems to be a fair sort, and the wav he won at Dunedin points to his being backed down to a very short price in the Visitors Handicap.
