BIG HOSPITAL GIFT

DONATION OF £25,000. COMMUNITY SECTION PROVIDED. Following an earlier announcement that the committee of management of the Queen Victoria Hospital for Women and Children, in Melbourne, had received a gift of £25,000 from an anonymous benefactor to enable major building extensions to be undertaken, it was learned last week that the money was a private gift from the Premier, Sir William McPherson, who has since resigned the Premiership of Victoria, following a hostile vote in the Legislative Assembly. Sir William McPherson has been a consistent and generous supporter of charities, and this is the second occasion upon which an important public institution has been handsomely assisted by him in extending its activities. It was through the generosity of Sir William and the late Lady McPherson that the State Ministry was able in 1924 to proceed with the erection of the Emily McPherson School of Domestic Economy. Sir William McPherson made a gife of £25,000 to the State Ministry to enable this school to bo built.
