CHRISTMAS EVE LAW-BREAKING.
The special sittings of the Police Court at Hawcra, arranged to deal with Christmas Evo law-breakers did not occupy much time on Saturday, there being only two cases for Mr. C. O. Ekdahl, J.P., to deal with. One was of a first offending inebriate, who was fined 10s aud costs. The other case concerned a fight.

Sergeant Henry, who conducted proceedings for the police, said he saw a large crowd congregated outside the Royal Hotel. He noticed both men being held back from one another. Each was threatening the other. ? A fine of £1 each was entered.
A recent visitor to South Taranaki was Mr. C. J. Powell, formerly proprietor of the Waimate Witness at Manaia. Mr. Powell is residing at Huntervi’le.
