CHRISTMAS EVE LAW-BREAKING.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve his attention was attracted to two men wrestling in front of the .Royal Hotel, said Constable Mullan. He arrested them both.

Sergeant Henry, who conducted proceedings for the police, said he saw a large crowd congregated outside the Royal Hotel. He noticed both men being held back from one another. Each was threatening the other. ? A fine of £1 each was entered.

A recent visitor to South Taranaki was Mr. C. J. Powell, formerly proprietor of the Waimate Witness at Manaia. Mr. Powell is residing at Huntervi’le.
