THE AUTUMN DOUBLE
AN INTERNATIONAL RACE The autumn double investments of most backers were reduced to breaking point when West Wicklow scored in tho Ccsarewitcih after on© of the most sternly contested struggles for that event which we have seen for a long while. That over four seconds should have been knocked off the previous best time for tho race is a testimony to the speed throughout, and, in only failing to tackle tho last half furlong, the topweight, Brown Jack, put up about tho best performance of hte gallant career. He was third, beaten a length and a length by West Wicklow and Friendship. The latter is owned by Mr. J. B. Joel, and made quit© a big show when we consider that he is a maiden four-year-old. He was the horse to overhaul Brown Jack in th© last 150 yards, up to which time Lieut.-Col. Wernher’e five-year-old,, beautifully handled by S. Donohue, bad encouraged high hopes of success.
