In addition to the regular attention given the elimination of mosquitoes during sanitary inspection of premises, special investigations are now being made of water courses, gullies, vacant sections and other possible breeding places and haunts of the pests. A statement to this effect was made to a meeting of the Auckland City Council by the chief sanitary inspector. He pointed out that arrangements had been made by the engineer’s department for precautionary measures at rubbish dumps and the regular oiling of street cesspits. The parks superintendent was clearing creeks and ditches on council reserves, and householders were being requested to get rid of all unnecessary water containers, empty those required at least once a week, put oil, kerosene or disinfectants in rain-water gully traps during dry weather, and cut down weeds and other rank growths likely to harbour adult mosquitoes.
