Mainey’s two sons, aged 10 and 7, got into difficulties when paddling in the MacLeay River. The father dashed to the rescue and brought one out. He placed him on a sondbank and returned for the second boy, but was unable to find him. Upon coming back for the first boy the father.found that he had been washed into deep water again and drowned. Both bodies were recovered.
