TARANAKI’S ENGAGEMENTS • 4 WANGANUI MATCH CANCELLED. RE-ARRANGEMENT OF FIXTURES. The proposed fixture between the Taranaki and Wanganui representative cricket teams at New Plymouth on Christmas Day and Boxing Day has been cancelled, the southern associaion having intimated that it is unable to get a team to travel. On • Saturday afternoon, in response to a telegram from the Taranaki a«sociation asking for the names of the Wa«. nganui team for signwriting on the number plates, the following telegram was received from Wanganui: “Cannot get team a why; fuller message following by night letter telegram.” Yesterday 1 morning a night letter telegram was delivered to the association as follows: “Extremely regret impossible to get team have tried every means we wish give you much notice as possible to enable you to make other arrangements hope you can arrange game with Wellington Varsity ,or otherwise as trial match for forthcoming Hawke Cup game and wish you best of luck in that again . expressing regret.” : , The association has accordingly decided to transfer the Taranaki A representative team to' the Victoria College match, which will be played on Pukekura Park on Boxing Day and the day after. There will accordingly be no match for a B team. Neither R. Eden (Okaiawa) nor T. Voung (Hawera) .is available for the match. Eden’s place in the , team has been taken':Sy -Maloney (Hawera Old Boys) and. N. Gibson (Egmont Village) becomes twelfth man. Stan Giddy will keep wickets. ' The Tai’anaki team now is:— .J 1 O, M. A compiunication was recently sent by the Taranaki association to Waikato pointing out that if Manawatu succeeded in retaining the Hawke Cup against' Poverty Bay at Christmas Taranaki ’Would be playing at Palmerston North at New Year for the cup, and would. be unable to play Waikato at Hamilton, as tentatively arranged.
