BOWLING COMPETITIONS

THE NEW YEAR TOURNAMENT FORTY RINKS AT NEW PLYMOUTH ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE DRAW. A meeting of the New Plymouth members of .the executive of the Taranaki Bowling Centre was held last night to make arrangements in connection with the New Year tournament, which is to be held, on January 1 and 2. There were present Messrs. A. K. Smart (chairman), J. D. Sole and F. J. Hill (secretary). Forty rinks have entered, this being a decrease of two as compared with last year. Ten clubs are represented. West End, as usual, heads the list with ten rinks. New Plymouth has six, Inglewood, Fitzroy and Vogeltown four each, Fire Brigade, Pari tutu and Avon three each, Waitara two and Stratford one. It was decided to play in six sections —four of six rinks and two of eight. Fitzroy, Vogeltown and West End greens will be used for section play, and Vogeltown for the semi-finals and final. Three games of 21 heads will be played on the first day, play commencing at 9.15 a.m., and two games of 16 heads will be played on the morning of the second day, play commencing at 8.45 a.m., leaving the semi-finals and final, which will be of 21 heads, for the afternoon. At a meeting of the New Plymouth executive of the Taranaki Bowling Centre last night a letter wae received from Mr. C. H. Clinkard. secretary of the Wanganui Bowling Centre, suggesting that an annual match might be arranged between the centres. He also stated that a number of bowlers, probably six rinks, would be making the trip to New Plymouth by the week-end excursion train on January 11 and asked that matches be arranged. It was decided to arrange a match for the Saturday afternoon. • A rink from the New Plymouth Club, skipped by A. K. Smart, will be taking part- in the South Auckland tournament which opens at Hamilton on Boxing Day. The Fitzroy Club will be represented at the Wanganui and Nelson tournaments.
