AUCKLAND SEEKS EXPERT ADVICE. ;••• By 'Telegraph.'—Press Association. Auckland, Dec. 20. After a discussion lasting till one o’clock this morning the City Council resolved by 12 votes to 10 that expert advice should be sought in the selection of the city engineer, for which 75 applications have been received from Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere. This number had previously been reduced by the council to six, and a strong public protest had been made through the Press against the final selection being made without expert advice. Mr. J. W. Mawson, Director of Town Planning and Mr. ,F.' W. Furkert, engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department, will be asked to make a confidential report on the six applicants.
