TOWN BOARD. AFFAIRS. ’ (From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Kaponga Town Board was held on Tuesday, when the following were present: Commissioners A. R. Bates (chairman), R. A. Law,-A. J. Herbert and H. J. Frank. An application from the Kaponga Dairy Company for permission to replace the present IJin. waterpipe«connection from the main with a 3in.- waterpipe was granted. A communication was received from Air. F. Aluggeridge, Eltham county engineer, in reference to tar-sealing of roads under the board’s control. It was decided on the engineer’s recommendation to continue with the original order of two tons of bitumen for tar-sealing operations early next spring, and to obtain one barrel for trial purposes. If the preparation after a trial proves satisfactory further consideration as to the advisability of laying down further stretches with it will be given. The electrical engineer’s report for November stated:—

A reliable electrical service has been maintained during the month by both plants, minor mechanical troubles being rectified. Heavy rains were experienced during the month, the stream flow being considerably augmented as a result. The total units generated by the plant serving the country area was 55,670. As a result of an adequate water supply the amount of energy purchased remained normal, the total being a demand of 45 k.v.a. phis 2180 units. The screening chamber erected upon the property adjacent to the top dam has always given a good deal of trouble during floods. Gn account of the increase in head the level of the chamber has been insufficient to cope with the flood watersj resulting in a heavy discharge taking place and scouring the surrounding country with the possibility of the chamber foundations also being affected. To remove this difficulty for all time I am raising the level of the chamber by three feet. • The engineer was instructed to arrange decorative lighting in the streets during the holidays. The chairman informed members that he had the resignation of the electrical engineer, Air. T. B. Alerson, who, on account’ of continued ill-lieajth, had found it necessary to take this step. In accepting the resignation with regret, the chairman said they all realised what a tremendous hurdle the engineer had been faced with, but he had carried out his duties in a thorough and highly efficient manner, with so much success that today they had one of the best and most economical plants in the Dominion for its size.

Air. Alerson in reply said he very much regretted severing relations with the board, as during the four years he had spent with them they had all worked together harmoniously. He was prepared to stay and assist his successor for a month or- so, but he would like to be relieved of his duties by the end of February at the latest. Air, A. W. Anderson, at present assistant electrical engineer to the board, will take the position of engineer. The appointment of an assistant engineer has been held over.
