DONOVAN-CROWLE BOUT

' HEAVY BOOKINGS REPORTED. That the Taranaki Boxing Association did not err in its judgment by securing for its patrons Tommy Crowle, hard-battling Australian featherweight ehampion, to oppose Tommy Donovan to-morrow night, is demonstrated by the heavy list of bookings. The bout promises to be one of the most thrilling ever staged in Taranaki; one might go even further and claim for this affair that it will be the sternest and toughest struggle staged in the Dominion for a long time. The Australian, who hails from the land where the word “stoush” was coined, knows just what those six letters stand for. Cool as an ice-pack, a stiff puncher, he fights all the time, and, like his opponent-to-be, Donovan, disdains the use of the back-move except as a last resort.

To the Taranaki fight fan it will be necessary, perhaps, only to recall that the stripling Doble, who gave Donovan such a close call in his first bout at Wellington, and fought so valiantly at New Plymouth, was well and truly slugged t the position of under-dog by Crowle, when the pair clashed in Australia a short time ago. If more is required to establish the Australian as “the goods,” mention of the manner in which he knocked- out Aitchison, a tough young fellow-countryman, a few- days before sailing for New Zealand, should suffice. .In that set-do Crowle’s ..barrage was too
