LIFE-SAVING ACTIVITIES
OH AWE CLUB’S REPORT. '
The formation of the club at the beginning of last swimming season filled a much needed want at Ohawe, states the annual report of the Ohawe Life-Sav-ing Club, to be submitted to a meeting to be held as soon as possible at the beach.
Though not very successful financially, the report continues, the season was a good one for active members. Under the instruction of Mr. P. G. Bamford members . were given lessons and had the reel on the beach on Sundays and public holidays. There was no occasion to use the reel during the season. The reel, belt and rope are in good condition, the reel having been recently painted. Mr. F. J. Sage donated to the club a life-belt, which has been liberally painted and will be placed in a box at the swimming hole as soon as activities commence at the beach. The Maoris have given permission to use the black shed near the water’s edge for housing the reel. A track has been made out on to the 1 iach, thus saving a lot of time and trouble.
A sample badge has been procured, and although no definite order has been placed, the committee has decided to accept it. Thanks are due to Mr. C. O. Ekdahl for the free printing of honorary members’ tickets. Had these been readily sold they would have placed tho club in a sound financial position. It should be tho duty of every householder at Ohawe to become an honorary member of the club.
The balance-sheet shows a credit balance of 19s sd. As tho club has very little expense to meet, it should endeavour to build up a reserve fund in case it should wish to send away a team for competition or to . r P wn sheds.
