TO BE SENTENCED TO-DAY
PUNISHMENT FOR OFFENCES
TWELVE MEN BEFORE THE JUDGtC
NUMEROUS CRIMES OF BURGLARY.
Twelve prisoners will be sentenced by Mr. Justice MacGregor in the Supreme Court at New Plymouth at 10.15 this morning. This is the largest number dealt with at one local session for many years, if, there has ever been such a list. Another feature is the number of convictions for burglary and postal thefts. As A. W. Barlow (for theft of a horse) and W. C. White and J. A. Cleaver (for breaking, entering and theft) have already had punishments imposed on them, after to-day the record for the session will be 15 prisoners. Following are the prisoners to be dealt with to-day:—
: R. J. V. Elliott. —For sentence from low- : er court for breaking, entering and i theft, and theft of postal packets I (35 charges). John James. —For sentence from lower ■ court for breaking,- entering and | theft. . L. J. Sales.—Pleaded guilty to indecent i asault on a male. 'Melville Sullivan. —Pleaded guilty to | breaking, entering and theft. j S. J. Oakley.—Pleaded guilty to breaki ing, entering and theft. ! Gcorgb Keenan. —Pleaded guilty to breaking, entering and theft. P. F. Keenan. —Pleaded guilty to breaking, entering and theft. Arthur Rudirigs. —Pleaded guilty to breaking, entering and theft. Wm. P. L. Knight.—Found guilty of theft of postal packets, attempted theft of postal packets, and attempted breaking and cnering. J. Earl Smith. —Found guilty of break- - ing, entering and theft, and pleaded guilty to other charges. ! Leonard E; Smith.—Found guilty of breaking, entering and theft, and theft, of postal packets, and pleaded guilty to other charges. S. W. Stroud. —Found guilty of breaking, entering and theft, and theft of postal packets.
