LABOURER IN BANKRUPTCY
VICTIM OF UNEMPLOYMENT. Through periodical unemployment Eric Cornwall Tanner, labourer, residing at Fitzroy, found himself in bankruptcy, and yesterday he was called to meet his creditors. The meeting lapsed for want of a quorum and was adjourned sine die.
Mr. J. S. S. Medley, Deputy-Official Assignee, presided, and Mr. A. C. Fookcs, for Kurta, was present. The bankrupt was not represented. - The bankrupt’s statement showed that he was in debt to the extent of £75 165., the chief items on the schedule being L. H. Johnson £l2 13s. 6d., Mrs. V. L. Kurta £7, A. Earnshaw £7 Ils. Id. (all of New Plymouth), Singer Sewing Machine Co. (Wanganui), £l2 Bs., and numerous small accounts. There were no assets. '
Under examination the bankrupt said he was married and had three small children. He was now living with his mother at Fitzroy. He was unemployed He was a labourer, and had no trade. He had been working casually at New Plymouth for about three years. About two years ago he had a car, but could not meet the .payments,, and passed it in again. He had a motor-cycle, which he and a fellow-workmate purchased for £4, but the machine was in poor condition. He could make no offer to his creditors, as he had no work.
