CENTRAL DIVISION BOWLING
AVON DEFEATS STRATFORD. The first games in the central division bowling banner competition were played yesterday, when Avon defeated Stratford by 23 points and Inglewood beat Eltham. The day was overcast and a breeze made bowling difficult and tricky. Tariki, who had a bye,, played a friendly match with the residue of the Stratford Club, which resulted in a win for Stratford by a margin of 14 points. Details are: —
GIFT EVENING AT LOWGARTH, POPULAR BRIDE ENTERTAINED. On the eve of her marriage Miss E. Piper was tendered a gift evening in the Lowgarth hall on Tuesday night. The attendance numbered 170, the gifts being numerous and of a high standard. In presenting the gifts Mr. F. -Willan referred to the keen interest Miss Piper had taken in the social and other activities of the district. Boulton’s orchestra supplied music for the dancing, while euchre satisfied the entertainnient needs of non-dancers. Songs were sung by Messrs. J. Burns and P. Marchant. Supper was attended to by a ladies’ committee and Mr. B. Kenny was M.C.
