TOWN BOARD AFFAIRS. The ordinary meeting of the Kaponga Town Board was held on Tuesday evening. Present: Commififiioners A. R. Bates (chairman), R. A. Law, A. J. Herbert/ H. J. Frank, E. L. Abbott, J. S. Firth and J. P. Gibson. An invitation from the Kaponga Fire Brigade to attend its annual meeting on “November 29 was accepted. An application from the Plunket Society for a benefit picture entertainment was granted. The cleric, Mr. H. A. T. Gallagher, was appointed to represent the board at the next meeting, The engineer reported that the powerstations had maintained a continuous and reliable service, free from electrical or mechanical defects. One electric range in the town area had been connected. The foreman reported that he had been engaged on street channelling and culvert work, as through shortage of bitumen he had been unable to go on with the patching up of pot-holes in the upper and lower Manaia and Eltham roads. It was decided to try to procure bitumen from the Eltham County Council. The engagement for three months of Mr. H. A. T. Gallagher as town clerk having expired on November 11, he was appointed permanently to the position. The clerk was instructed to have certain roof repairs and spouting work carried out at the town hall and to obtain alternate tenders from the local painters for painting the iuside walls of the main body of the hall.
