GOVERNOR OPENS THE WORKS.

The Governor-General performed the official opening ceremony of the Waikaremoana hydro-electric power station to-day. • There was a large attendance. -'■lnteresting speeches' were made by Mr. E. H. Glendining, power board chairman, the Hon.' E. A. Ransom, Public Works Minister, Mr. F. W. Furkert, and Mr. Kissell, the engineers, Mr. K. S. Williams, M.P., and leading Maori chiefs. The Maoris presented Their Excellencies with beautiful Maori mats. Sir Charles eulogised the work of the departmental officials and expressed his regret at his early departure from New Zealand. Many members of Parliament and. local bodies on the east coast were present and a great crowd inspected the works afterwards.
