Marshall Ratcliffe, at Eastland (Texas) to-night, was lynched by 100 men, following his attempt to break gaol. Ratcliffe is as notorious as "the Santa Claus” bandit who dressed in a Christmas outfit on December 23 last year, led a gang into a Cisco bank, killed two officials, escaping with several thousands of dollars. Ratcliffe had already been convicted of murder, and when awaiting a new trial ha tried to escape-from gaol early this morning. The' mob .hauled him over' a telephone yardarm. The rope broke, and, falling, Ratcliffe pleaded for time to make a speech. He could not make himself heard, however, and within a few minutes he died at the end of a stronger rope.
