Mr. D. H.-L. Corrigan, of. Tauranga, is on a short visit to New Plymouth. The condition of Mr. Cunningham, New Plymouth, is reported to be very grave. Mr. Rudyard Kipling, states a London cablegram, has been ordered abroad for health reasons.

Mr. P. H. Hartland, district traffic manager of railways, arrived in New Plymouth last night. -Mr. E. McGinty, who has been on a visit to the South Island, returned to New Plymouth last night. Police Inspector J.-K. Simpson, Palmerston North, who was visiting New Plymouth on Tuesday, left for home yesterday. Captain Taylor, employed, with the Lamb line of intercolonial steamers, has been appointed junior pilot by the Wanganui Harbour Board. Mr. R. H. Boyd, Chief Postmaster at Wellington, will retire from the; service on ’ Friday, after approximately 40 years with the ■ Department. . The. staff of the chief post office has marked the occasion of his retirement by presenting him with a gold watch, reports the Press Association.

The Hon. J. B. Donald, PostmasterGeneral, has advised Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., that his. present intention is to arrive in New Plymouth on Friday, Novembei’ 29. The Minister will visit Waitara the following Monday, and leave for Wellington on Monday night. Mr. Donald’s primary purpose is to visit the post offices of the district. . Mr. M. C. Lysons, an ex-New Plymouth High School' boy, has been elected head of College House, which is associated with Canterbury University College, for 1930. Mr. H. M. Thompson, also of the New Plymouth High School, has been similarly honoured in respect of the Rolleston House, the other hostelry in connection with the university. The former is a divinity student, and the other a civil engineering student.
