Bishop Seflgwick, who will retire from the Diocese of Waiapu next month, intends to return to England. Mr. Justice MacGregor will preside at the quarterly session of the Supreme Court opening in New Plymouth next Tuesday. Mr. C. Clarke, New Plymouth borough engineer, returned from the north on Sunday. He had been called away through the- sudden death of his father. The Rev. A. R. H. Morris, until lately curate in charge of St. Barnabas,* Reading, Berkshire, arrived by the Rangitiki to take up the post of vicar of the parochial district of Taupo, which forms part of the diocese of Waiapu.

Miss Evangeline Booth, who is visiting Japan, had a huge welcome in ths Tokio City Han on Sunday. The appointment of Mr. C. H. Tranter as general manager of the Commercial Bank of Australia has been announced, in succession to the late Mr. H. L. Heron. Mr. Tranter has been connected with the bank for nearly 46 years, having served in various branches in Australia and in London. He has been manager at' the head office since .1924 and had previously had long experience as an inspector of the bank. Mr R. inKennan, inspector for the bank, has been appointed manager at the head office in Melbourne-
