BOXING TO-NIGHT

, GREAT FIGHT EXPECTED. ■Short, sturdily structured over-all. A fighting face, keen-eyed, is set on powerful shoulders, from which are suspended arms- that .with every move set rippling well-cared-for muscles. Soundribbed and.sh.oi-t, his body’does not present an extensive target,, while the vital spot, the diaphragm, or solar plexus, is plated’ with armour of knotted muscle. Slightly bowed underpinning gives further evidence of solidity. Well-school-ed pedals, no less than deftly wielded hands, have won for this little southerner the place he holds in Maoriland’s fistic firmament. He looks the goods, he is the goods—Tommy Griffiths. In his corner to-night will be another sturdy human, battle-scarred, a light ol 20 years back; shrewd and well versed in the game. He it is who has imparted much of his wile to the little fighting machine who opposes the local man to-night. That little warrior who will direct the plan of campaign is Griffiths ',,..pere./To.cket Hercules,” ‘‘Toy Bulldog,” and . 4, .Fighting : Fireman” are . a -few of the ‘’soubriquets which have been allotted the abnormally-muscled battler who in ~10 short months has taken right huge strides to the top. Tommy Donovan and his methods are too well-known to enlarge upon. But if those methods smack of “no quarter given or asked,” no one will deny Tommy the reputation he has won for scrupulously clean tactics. He is a hard but.fair foe. Donovan commands considerable!-box-, ing as well as fighting ability, and has ; proved that x he is no pion who has gained a reputation by a , series of set-ups, but a real clinking, scrapper with the heart of a lion and the’punching, power of a, heavyweight. The match gives promise of developing into the greatest contest seen in Taranaki for a long time. As stated before, Donovan 'wastes no time in the • ring, and it remains to be recorded that ■Griffiths has ever shirked “having a go.” In connection with to-night’s contest arrangements have been made so thatseats at the ringside, dress circle and stalls may be reserved at Collier’s until noon to-day. Country patrons are reminded that there is no extra charge for booking and if they ring and reserve their seats there will be no risk of being turned away. Increased ringside accommodation has been arranged by the association.
