ELTHAM MUNICIPAL THEATRE. “The Cohens and Kellys,” screening at the Eltham Municipal. Theatre tonight, is a real ’scream ■ of * a comedy. Charles Murray - and George ; Sidney appear as bathing suit specialists. The outstanding feature of the picture is the wonderful collection of bathing beauties and beauty displays. Novel and snappy. A really interesting story full of the funniest situations makes a good back-ground. This programme is. the best comedy shown . this year. I *' A FRIENDLY MAGICIAN. STRATFORD TOWN HALL TO-NIGHT What is the ordinary conception of a master of magic? Somebody very solemn, ancient and portentous; but the : very opposite of the conventional “ma-: gician” type is Nicola the Great, who, after an’absence of many years, during which he has made two tours of the world, appears in the Town Hall, Stratford, to-night at 8 o’clock. Despite the fact that he has pried open the door of. the most ancient magic-mysteries of India, China, Egypt and the Argentine, Nicola remains much the sort of friendly magician who likes to entertain his friends at his club with the tricks and illusions which have an eternal appeal to mankind. Big, jovial, with a twinkle of humour in his eye and a sparkle in his conversation to match, Nicola has escaped the conventions of the stage. Apart from his marvellous gifts as an illusionist, he is simply-an entertaining and very human man. But those who love the bizarre and fantastic things of the world—doors hidden by purple curtains of mystery—will find delight in Nicola’s performances. The lore of sorcery, which has given. Eastern magicians almost the powers of gods among their simple people, is used here for the entertainment of the Western world, and a more entrancing way of spending an evening among the Arabian Nights would be hard to find. The box plan is open at Kear’s music warehouse.

Six thousand electric bulbs were used in lighting the gigantic openair “set,” wits its ivy-covored trellised alcoves outlined with fairy lamps, its big dancing floor beneath a canopy .of glittering lights, and in the illumination of the background, a picturesque building with a balcony and creeper-covered verandah.
