‘SALES OF WORK ARE WRONG’
BISHOP CHER.RINGTON CRITICISES. COMPETITION WITH BUSINESSES. By Teleariph.—Press Association. Hamilton, Oct. 3. “I thoroughly disapprove of these sales of work, which are such a feature of church life,” ; said Bisho)) Cherrington in opening a sale bn behalf of the Cathedral Ladies’ Guild this morning. He said they were robbing the poor by competing with people who found it.difficult to make a living selling baby .clothes, needlework and . similar things. Sales,' whether with raffles or not,- were v rong in principle. Church people should give directly and not .depend on sales. ° The Bishop, however, paid a tribute to- the work of the ladies’ guild in seeking to raise funds, not -to pay bff the debt, but, to -improve the cathedral. He wished the sale every success. ;
