Mr. C. H. Weston has .been appointed to represent the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce at the forthcoming annual conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce at Auckland. Mr. F. S. Seaminon, manager of the National Bank at Napier, retired yesterday after 39 years’ service, reports the Press Association. He was met by a large gathering of business men' and presented with an inscribed gold watch and an illuminated address. A representative gathering of citizens '* on Wednesday night at Pahiatua made a presentation to the Mayor, Mr. J. D. Wilson, and Mrs. Wilson in recognition of their public services. Several speakers eulogised Mr. Wilson’s many activities from the early days to the present time. The gifts were a cheque and a largo chiming clock. ... At the fortnightly social of .the St. Mary’s (New Plymyouth) Young People’s Social Club on Tuesday evening Mr. lan Shaw, who has received notice of transfer to the Gisborne branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company, was- farewelled. Horsburgh, of. Hawera, is at present at the George Hotel, Glasgow. He travelled hers via Suez on the Mooltan, and arrived in London on July 13. His main object in visiting the Old Country is to recuperate from an operation,, and also to go into conference with his English buyers, in London. He has already toured Scotland and paid a short visit to the Continent. Mr. Horsburgh was amazed, and greatly annoyed to find the amount of foreign manufactured goods displayed here to the exclusion of the British, a situation he feels is to the detriment of the Empire in general, and particularly to the Homeland. The Bishop of Nelson has appointed . the Rev. James Alexander Jermyn, 8.A., - vicar of Greymouth, to be Archdeacon of Mawhcra. Mr. Jermyn is the second ; native of the diocese of Nelson to receive such an appointment, the first being the Venerable G. W. York, who, in December next, is retiring from parochial work. The -new Archdeacon, who is 38 years of age, was born in Marlborough and 'is. the son of Mr. James Jermyn, of the Awatere. He was educated at St. John’s College, Auckland, and at College House, Christchurch, from which he graduated B.A. in 1914. He was ordained Deacon in 1915 and priest in 1916. Archdeacon Jermyn was curate of Karamea in 1915-16, chaplain in the N.Z.E.F., in 1917-1919, and curate of Holy Trinity, Stroud Green, London, in 1919-1921. On return to New Zealand he was appointed to Murchison from 1921 to 1924. He was vicar of Westport from 1924 to 1928 and vicar of Greymouth in October, 1928. Probably he is the youngest Archdeacon in New Zealand.
