SPORT OF ROAD CYCLING

MOUNTAIN RACE ARRANGEMENTS. The Timaru to Christchurch cycle road race will take place to-morrow. S. McCann is New Plymouth’s only representative. He will ride from scratch with 11. Watson and L. Hill, and these three must provide a wonderful race for fastest time honours. The limit is 60min. Arrangements and collecting of finance for the mountain road race, which is this year the premier road race of New Zealand, involving the New Zealand road championship, are progressing well and there is every possibility of the race proving a record from many points of view. Further support has been received from George and Doughty, Ltd., Bellringer Bros., Deare’s Ltd., and Messrs W. and R. Egar, Stratford. The committee of the mountain race is concentrating on catering for the public on the racecourse prior to the finish of the race. It is now assured that three hunting horse-jumping events will take place, and this should be spectacular. The New Plymouth Boys’ High School has been approached regarding a mass drill display. Orchestral music has been arranged. A refreshment stall and athletic events are to be arranged. The committee hopes by doing this and improving the result board whereby the public will be able to follow the race well, that the attendance will.be greatly improved.
