EVENTS ON RACE TRACK

A.J.C. RANDWICK CARNIVAL. NEW ZEALANDERS PROMINENT. FINAL ACCEPTORS ANNOUNCED. By Tolog.ra.lxil—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 3, 8.45 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 3. Racing circles had another shock today when Mid Kent was withdrawn from the'Metropolitan .owing to a burst heel. ..Limerick’s! withdrawal has been a great disappointment. Newspapers feature the incident and express the hope that, the last has not yet been seen of the champion. - V . ■ Newspapers -also give prominence to the great form being shown by other New Zealand horses—Nightmarch, Paquito, Aussie and Pomp. 1 The Randwick course looks a picture after the recent rains. Large crowds are present from other States ' for the opening of the carnival on Saturday. Final acceptors are:— , EPSOM HANDICAP.—Aussie, Fujisan, Sion, Nightmarch, Reonui, Killarney, Loquacious, Bright Glow, Figure, Paquito, Gilt Edge, Donmoon, Venetian Lady, Royal Flavour, Lord Eudorus-, Coercion, Perception, Sir. C'hrystopher, Habashon, Adrian’s March, Racksa, Royal Duke, Raisin, King’s Arms, ■ Vertoy. . A.J.C. DERBY.—Sir Bibble, Comanche, Cathtnar, -Phar Lap, Lprason, Pentheus, ' ■ Toper, - Carradale, Honour, Queen Nassau, Nedda. THE METROPOLITAN—Nightmarch, Loquacious, Concentrate, The Banker, Paquito, Kidaides, Bright Glow, Oratrix, .Valparaiso, Deadlight, Inducement, Royal Flavour, Kavalli, Spearman, Tidal, Tarapunga. “DOWN THE LINE.” Elysianor was going well on the tracks before leaving for Auckland, and if his weight is reasonable the son of Elysian should give a good account of himself in the hurdle race on the second day of the Auckland meeting. , # . ft . ft * Blimp’s form was too bad to be true at Hastings, and his party lost’ heavily there. Blimp goes best on a firm track and is to be given a chance. to redeem himself at Greenmeadows. If he fails to \show reasonable form there Mr. C. T. Keeble will have made another bad bargain. « - # # # Private advice received in Wanganui is to the effect that Walter Raynor is yery pleased with the way Pomp is profressing on the tracks, and his party exect the son of Absurd to run prominently in two-year-old events at the forthcoming meeting. One. of Pomp's Engagements is the richly-endowed Breeders’ Plate. # ft * * Jockey E. Stanway has gone to Auckland and will pilot Elysianor and Sleepy feol in their engagements there. # ft ft Punters down the line will not hear of Historic’s ■ defeat at Ellerslie. The big chestnut is reported to have. improved out of sight since winning the

Avondale. Cup,, and with Bert Morris again in the saddle he must be very dangerous in long distance handicaps this season. •*, • •• * Historic was a long time in “coming good,” but his record for consistency Fast season drew attention to this year’s prospects, and he has done everything asked of him with consummate ease. By Nassau from the Australian-bred Brayton, the dam of Bonnetter, Royal Box, Tarleton, Affirm (late Witness Box), Judge’s Box and Mervette,• Historic should be all that his admirers assert, that is, a. high-class racehorse. . • . # * ft ft One of the most disappointing horses at present is Zippor, who has been boomed„for several important handicaps this season but has so far failed to act up to expectations; He comes from a winning strain, his dam, another Aus-tralian-bred mare (Landrail) being responsible for Chimera, Railand, Rieuse, Landbird, Finhaven and Magna Cliarta. Zippor seems to be the worst of the bunch and is getting too far up in years to retrieve the family name now. * * * # Queen’s Choice ran a good second to Kick Off at Hastings but will not be asked to measure strides with the son of All -Black at Napier Park. The, veteran son of All Black is classy. « ft ft ft My Own was not disgraced in the Hawke’s Bay Guineas, being only a head away from Admiral Drake at the finish. The daughter of Lord Quex and Tressida will drop into hack company again at Napier Park, and that class should suit her better. Being a full sister to Raasay and Ganymede and half-sister to Runnymede (by King John), big things were expected of her as a two-year-old, but she raced with only fair success. Perhaps now, at three years, she may do better, and her showing on Saturday may give some indication as to her future prospects. # * ft ■ ft Roi De Vai’s running at Marton under big weights was most impressive, and the son of Lackham, if decently handled, may trouble some of the best sprinters at Ellerslie. Sid Reid has him booking a picture and, expects big things of him in open company this season. TURF TOPICS. (By “Moturoa.”) South Island sports expect Silver Paper to go well in the Electric Handicap at Dunedin. ft ft * * ' ' . Toxeuma was at a double disadvantage at Hastings last week, being very gross and being ridden by an inexperienced boy. ’He looks well, however, and can be expected to play a prominent part in the sprint and mile handicaps this season. ft # » # Arrow Lad was right off the course in the sprint at the Hawke’s Bay meeting last week, and then just went under to Great Charter by a short head. Arrow Lad has returned looking robust from his spell, and the Awapuni sprinter may pay to follow this season. ft ft ft ft Chief Link (Chief Ruler—Silver Link), who has a host of admirers for the Welcome Stakes to be run to-morrow, shaped well in her first public outing, winning her division of the two-year-old parade at Wanganui from Hard Words. The half-brother to Silvermine, the winner of the last Stewards’ Handicap, displays all the family brilliance, and Mr. Alexander appears -to have a good representative at Ellerslie.

At this .stage, of the season Snowy Morris and H. Goldfinch head the list of winning jockeys with a dozen wins apiece. “L.G.,” however, has the better record, his percentage being nearly one ini three, while Goldfinch’s percentage is exactly one in four. Alan McDonald and Bert Morris are next on the list with eight and seven wins respectively. Ron Syme, the Auckland hurdle horseman, has the best percentage of 37.5, having ridden three winners and a third in eight mounts. ft ■. ft ■. * * Nominations for the following big events at the C.J.C. Cup meeting are due to-night: Stewards’ Handicap, Criterion Handicap, Metropolitan Handicap, Canterbury Cup, Jockey Club Handicap, G. G. Stead Gold Cup, Stonyhuret Handicap, and Fendalton Handicap. The first acceptance is also due for the New Zealand Cup. The first forfeits for the McLean Stakes and the Guineas at the. Dunedin meeting aiid the Wellesley Stakes at the Wellington spring meeting are also due to-night. 0 ft ft * *. Two young riders, C. and N. Davis, worked rather a neat dodge at Hastings, writes “Carbine.” C. Davis, the rider of Masher, drew No. 11 at the barrier and N. Davie, who was’ riding Clarendon, drew the No. 2 marble. The mile races at Hastings are started on a bend and a good position is a big advantage. Masher was favourite for the race and Clarendon little . fancied. The riders changed positions and Masher, commencing well from an infinitely better position than he should have started from, just struggled home. Masher's rider was fined a “fiver.” # # * * Riding engagements mentioned in connection with the Auckland meeting include the following: A; E. Ellis, Pink Coat and Prodice; E. Ludlow, Grand Spirit, Good Boy and Catoma; K. Robinson, Lady’s Boy; J. Burgess, Marita and Ah Wera; K. Gill, Lady Court; P. Brady, C'hesterman; H. Dulieu, Star of the East and Kauri Park; J. Cammick, Red Lion. . LIMERICK TO HAVE LONG SPELL. • - ■. - z By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Oct. 3. Limerick has been withdrawn from all spring engagements. He will be sent back to New Zealand as early as possible and treated to a long spell. FINAL GALLOPS AT ELLERSLIE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Oct. 3. Beautiful weather prevailed for the final gallops at Ellerslie this morning and there was a good deal of interesting work. Tire course proper, with the flags 35ft. out from the rails, was open for fast work, and the going was excellent. No. 3 grass track was also available, but there was very little work on it. On the course proper the first to work were Thursby and Kawainga, who were sent six furlongs. They covered the first two in 27 2-ssec., and the full distance in Imin. 21 2-ssec., finishing together. After running two furlongs in 2Gsec., Brampton had the better of War Officer at the end of five furlongs in Imin. 5 4-ssec. From a straggling start Eager Rose and King Emerald were in front of Gold Money and Respirator at the finish of five furlongs in Imin. 4 3-ssec. Eager Rose and King {Emerald both did their work well.Importer commenced slowly over a round and ran the last seven furlongs in Imin. 42 l-ssec. . From a flying start Alloy was just a shade in front of Bombarder over half a mile, completed in 51sec. Running Over had a slight advantage from Great Emblem at the conclusion of three furlongs in '39 2-ssec. ■ The Lover accounted for Palmares over five furlongs in Imin. 5 2-ssec. Salamander and Good Idea ran an easy six furlongs, taking Imin. 25 1-5 sec. The two-year-olds, Chief Link and Cylinder, jumped away at the half-mile post and finished on terms in 51sec.; both these youngsters did their work well. Talisker was not doing his best to cover a round in 2min. 12 l-ssec. The last six furlongs was run in Imin. 24 3-ssec. Adjuster had Sea Comet as a mate over a mile and a quarter, traversing the last round in 2min. 15 l-ssec. Adjuster, on the inside, was going bett.r. Singleton was timed to run his last six furlongs in Imin. 24sec. Corinax, who is on the improve, strode over a circuit in 2min. 14 3-ssec. Red Lion, Taneriri and Hannibal got to the end of five furlongs in Imin. ssec. Red Lion showed to most advantage. Lady’s Boy was o good for Bennie and Mountain Guide at the finish of three furlongs in 39see. Reremoana beat Benzora over five furlongs in Imin. 5 2-ssec. Reremoana did his work well. Knightlike and Roi de Vai went away from the five furlong post and, after running two furlongs in 25 l-sisec., finished up their task in Imin. 4 l-ssec. They were practically together at the finish. There was nothing between Standfast and Merry Mint over six furlongs in Imin. 21 2-ssec. Oil King beat Trickle at the end of half a mile in 50 4-ssec.; a good gallop. Golden Wedding put a lot of dash into a six furlong task run in Imin. 18 3-5 sec. Hunting Cry and False Scent went a mile. They ran the first two furlongs in 2(i I-ssec., four in 53sec., and the full distance in Imin. 46sec. Hunting Cry, on the outside, appeared to be going the better, and this gallop will bring him into favour for the Guineas. Amor and Leader were also sent over a mile. They ran the first half-mile in 52 4-ssec., and finished in Imin. 47 4-5 sec. Amor was several lengths in front.' Silver Mine and Pink Coat were companions over six furlongs. They ran the first two furlongs in 2Gsec., and finished in Imin. 18sec., Silvermine doing it better, though Pink Coat also went well. This was the fastest six of the morning, and Pink Coat lost few admirers for his Guineas engagement. Great interest centred in the gallop of Historic and Star Stranger over a round. Both carried light weights, and Star Stranger had the inside running. They kept together till near the post, but Historic had a neck advantage at the finish. The distance was covered in 2min. 4 4-ssec., the last seven furlongs taking Imin. 33see., and the final six Imin. 20 4-ssec. It was a good performance on the part of both horses, and Historic made a lot of friends for the Mitchelson Cup. After breakfast, from an uneven start, Diamond Queen beat Bizarro at the finish of six furlongs, in Imin. 20 3-ssec. .

. Chrysology pleased greatly by running half a mile in 50 3-ssec. -He had J. Barry in the saddle and went yhry pleasingly throughout. The Trial Hurdles candidate, - Sir Archie, hit out freely over a round, which he covered in 2min. 8 3-ssec., the last six furlongs taking Imin. 22sec. Great Charter did strong work over six furlongs, but was not after time. He showned signs of lameness after the gallop. Prodice and Desert Glow went a mile, finishing on terms. They were only timed over the last six furlongs, which took Imin. 20 l-ssec. Prodice, who had the outside running, was going better at the finish. Good Boy hit out nicely over six furlongs in Imin. 20 l-ssec. Flying Prince beat Arikitoa and Cybele over eeven furlongs. They ran the first three' in 39‘sec., and the full distance in Imin. 32 4-ssec. Value and the two-year-old, Valmaire, completed a three furlong sprint in 37 l-ssec.
