LATEST MESSAGES REASSURING. POPULAR MARRIAGE RECALLED. (British Official Wireless). Rugby, Sept. 30. The Princess Royal, the King’s eldest sister, has been taken ill at Mar Lodge, Braemar. It is stated that the illness began with a chill. The Princess had slight gastric haemorrhage yesterday. She had a restful night but the condition of her heart caused'some anxiety. The latest messages from Braemar are more reassuring. The gastric haemorrhage is slight. It is hoped the doctors will allow the Princess to travel to London at the week-end. The Princess Royal, who was born in 1867, married at the age of 22 the Earl of Fife. Her love match with the earl, who was not of Royal blood, appealed strongly to the public. The earl was created Duke of Fife at the wedding breakfast. The Princess with the duke and their two daughters had a narrow escape from death in 1907 when the liner Delhi, in which they were travelling for the opening of Khartum Cathedral, was wrecked off Tangier. They were all thrown into the sea when their lifeboat collapsed, but /were rescued by the sailors. The duke died in Egypt a month after tho wreck. The Princess’ elder daughter, who married Prince Arthur of Connaught, is staying at Mar Lodge. The younger daughter is Lady Maud Carnegie.
