GALES IN CANTERBURY
SOME DAMAGE IN ASHBURTON.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ashburton, Last Night. The worst north-west gale for some years swept the country last night. Electric poles were brought down as the result of falling trees. Country reports show that plantations suffered severely. In one belt two miles long near Methven it is reported 75 per cent, of the trees are down. Some trouble was caused in the telephone and telegraph services.
