WAIKATO BEAT CANTERBURY BOTH TEAMS EVENLY MATCHED. LILBURNE UNFIT TILL SATURDAY.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, Last Night. A fast, close game was played between Waikato and Canterbury to-day, the former winning by 21 points to 17. Waikato secured three penalties, three tries and a goal from a mark, Canterbury getting five tries, one of which was converted. Both sides received an even share of the ball, but the home forwards showed superiority in the loose. The backs were very evenly matched, but the home : side’s tackling prevented several sure tries. ■ : Halstead’s goal-kicking resulted in ? Waikato winning.
