SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE

WORK DONE BY STATE CLINICS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Levin, Aug. 15. The State dental' clinic in -Levin was officially opened yesterday by the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, who said there were ninety clinics operating, with 55 sub-bases, 676 schools and 53,500 children being under treatment. Seventeen new clinics had been established this year. The work accomplished last vear included 146,354 fillings, 76,555 extractions and 99,701 other operations. Mention was made by other speakers of the fact that Levin pioneered the way iu the Dominion by establishing a school dental system in *1919, two years before the State clinics were operating. This was a scheme devised by Mr. D. S. Mackenzie, a local dentist, under which he and other practitioners attended to children for the nominal fee of £1 per annum. This service is still operating in the district.
