PORT WHARFAGE CHARGES
ANOMALIES AT NEW PLYMOUTH. NEW SCHEDULE BEING PREPARED. Anomalies under tlie system of wharfage charges recently introduced at New Plymouth are likely to be removed very shortly as a result of the conference on Tuesday between representatives of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce and the Harbour Board. Reporting to the board yesterday, the chairman (Mr. C. E. Bellringer) said the chamber had advertised for complaints from those concerned, but the main points considered were those raised by the chamber itself. 'They concerned chiefly produce and motor-cars. The subject had been fully and amicably discussed and as a result the committee was now to draft a schedule to rectify one or two anomalies. “I have no doubt that when the schedule is finished it will be quite satisfactory to all parties and that it will be prepared on such a basis that all trouble will ibe avoided in the future,” continued Mr. Bellringer. He added that the board appreciated the action of the chamber in bringing the matter forward, and he was sure the chamber appreciated the fact that the board had appointed a committee to discuss the anomalies. Mr. E. Maxwell pointed out that- information was being sought with a view to bringing the charges into line with those of other ports. Mr. Bellringer said it was thought better to have a schedule that would be universal for New Zealand ports, especially where it related to produce. Mr. C. H. Burgess; The board should remove the anomalies as quickly as it can. Mr. Bellringer: It will.’ The wharfage committee already appointed was authorised to deal with tne new schedule and was ; given power to adopt it as soon as it is available, .
