The position is now open and most interesting. Nottingham has lost the leadership, and Kent is now practically out of the running. The present position of the teams is: — Gloucester and Lancashire, each 126; Nottingham, 123; Yorkshire, 119; Kent, ■ 116; Sussex, 111; Derbyshire, 107. Tate is unable to play against South Africa in the test match. The substitute has not yet been announced. A Ducat, the Surrey cricketer, who is 22nd in the English cricket averages, has accepted the Queensland Cricket Association’s offer to act as coach there.
