SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETS. PRIZES TO BE GIVEN THIS YEAR. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Inglewood School Committee was held on Wednesday evening, Air. F. Roberts presiding. ~ A letter was received from the Education Board acknowledging receipt' of £5O towards the erection of a dental clinic on runners at Inglewood, and stating that application had been made for the erection. The secretary stated that £l4 was yet needed fully to furnish the dental clinic. He was* instructed to write to the Education Board pressing, for the immediate erection of the clinic, as it was necessary that it be erected before the end of September, otherwise the dental nurse would not attend the school. The secretary stated that when nil accounts were paid there would be a debit balance of approximately £2, but a subsidy was expected from the Education Board shortly. The headmaster, Mr. Kirk, reported there had been considerable sickness in the school, and the average attendance was 258 with 294 on the roll. He stated that at his request the school nurse had visited to inquire into some skin disease, but this was now quickly disappearing. The chairman complimented Mr. Kirk on his quick attention to this matter. He reported that hot cocoa had now been stopped. . It was left in the hands of the chairman to sell a number of trees in the school garden. The secretary stated the [dans for the erection of*the proposed new school were expected shortly. Some discussion took place on the matter of children sitting for the Junior National Scholarship. The matter of prize-giving was again brought up. . ~ The headmaster stated that m his opinion prizes should not be given, his chief reason being that it took away money by which otherwise the school library would benefit considerably. He thought the library was a greater benefit to the children than prizes It was not generally the hardest workeis who benefited from prizes, but he would not press hie opinion, as it was foi the committee to decidewhether prizes should be criven or not.
