Auckland, Last Night.

Just after alighting from a tramcar outside his house at Morningside to-night , an elderly man, Samuel Leathern, a bricklayer, married with a grown-up family, was knocked down by a butcher’s light van and killed.

Subsequently William David Weller, driver of the van, was' arrested on a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-vehicle.
