GOVERNMENT’S LAND DEALS

MINISTER EXPLAINS PLANS.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.

Wellington* July 24. Ths Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, in an interview to-day, replied to a newspaper statement that no properties, with the exception of one, had been acquired by the Ward Government to date. He said eleven properties, totalling 11,359 acres, had been acquired by agreement to purchase at £214,399 with delivery at specified dates. Obviously the Government desired to offer the properties for selection and delivery at suitable seasonable periods, and arrangements were being made for ballots to take place some three months before actual delivery. The department had arranged with many vendors to allow building material to be brought into several areas by the successful applicants soon .after each ballot, also for the prosecution of the necessary road formation.

Mr. Forbes mentioned that the Land Purchase Board was negotiating for further properties.
