CONTRACT OR DAY LABOUR
AUCKLAND TRAM EXTENSIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, July 23. When the Auckland Transport Board to-day was asked to adopt a recommendation that tramway extension works should be done by contract a lengthy discussion ensued, and it was decTded to refer the matter back to the management with a. recommendation that the Point Chevalier extension should be done half by contract and half by day labour. Mr. E. J. Phelan stated* that hundreds of men had registered in the belief that work would be available., but the contractor would not look at them
