TUG-OF-WAR AT LOWGARTH

SEMI-FINAL STAGES REACHED. Six tug-of-war teams competed in the lightweight (41st 51bs) competition and three teams in the heavyweight 49st olbs) at Low-garth last night. Results were as follow:— Lightweight. Tuna beat Finnerty Road. Foundry beat Benton Bros. Hastings Road beat Lowgarth A. Tuna beat Foundry. Tuna beat Hastings Road. Finnerty Road beat Benton Bros. Foundry beat Lowgarth A. Foundry beat Finnerty Road. Hastings Road a bye. Heavyweight. Lowgarth beat Tuna. Foundry beat Lowgarth. Tuna beat Lowgarth. The finals, to be pulled to-night, will be: Tuna v. Foundry in the heavyweight, and Foundry v. Lowgarth in the lightweight, the winners to pull Tuna. There will be a dance at the conclusion of the tourney. GENERAL. To decide the winner of the coastal division first junior Rugby competition, Toko and Inglewood will have to play. A decision as to when and where the match is to be played has not been made, but the game will probably take place at Stratford to-morrow. If so Air. A. O’Sullivan will referee. The third grade matches for to-morrow are: School v. Celtic, at School, 2.45 p.m., Air. E. Scott; Inglewood v. Eltham, at Inglewood, 2.45 p.m., Air. F. Julian. A euchre and crib tournament in aid of school funds will be held in the Alidhirst Hall on Friday evening. There will be a dance to follow. As the district’s effort for earthquake relief a sale of work followed by a social in the evening will be held at the Cardiff Hall to-morrow. Alodern and oldtime dances, orchestra and a free ’bus from Stratford will constitute the programme for the evening. RUGBY ROAD NEWS. Airs. R.eaclon is on holiday in the Wanganui district. Airs. Wheller is the guest of her daughter, Airs. Rustling. Miss C. Dey has returned home after spending a holiday with friends in New Plymouth.

Mr. and Mrs. S. Walker have returned from their holiday in Palmerston Nortn.

The bobby calf lorries started collecting calves on Monday, and a good load was collected for the first time.

An accident occurred a few days ago to a two-horse waggon on Rugby Road. One of the animals became rather frisky, began to kick and so broke out of the shafts. No damage was done to the waggon and no. one was hurt.
