DEATH OF ADMIRAL REES
PROMINENT NAVAL CAREER. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received July 23, 12.10 a.m. United Service. London, July 22. Admiral William Stokes Rees, R.N. (retired) died to-day at the age of 76 years, He commanded the steamer reserve at Sydney in 1904. Admiral Rees entered the Royal Navy in 1866 after attending Carlisle High School, He served at Brass River in 1895, being mentioned in despatches and receiving a medal with clasp. The thanks of the War Office were tendered him for his services at Ashantee the following year. He was also at Zanzibar in 1896. Promotion followed mention in despatches for service at Berlin in 1897. He commanded H.M.S. Thetis at Delagoa Bay, South Africa, in 1900 and was created a Companion of the Bath.
