FIRST LYTTELTON CHILD
DEATH OF MR. H. BRITTAN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Mr. Harry Lyttelton Brittan has died at the age of 77. He was formerly an inspector of the Union Bank of Australia. _ Mr. Brittan is believed to be the first New Zealand-born descendant of the Canterbury pilgrims and the first European child born at Lyttelton. His father was Mr. William Guise Brittan, who arrived at Lyttelton in December, 1851, in one of the first four ships sent out by the Canterbury Association to establish a Church of England settlement on Banks Peninsula, and what were afterwards known as Canterbury Plains.
