ENTERTAINMENTS

EVERYBODY’S.

“THE PATSY” HEADS PROGRAMME.

; “The Patsy,” the screen version of , Barry Conners’ famous stage play recently presented by J. C. Williamson’s , Ltd. on the stage of the New Plymouth , Opera House, was screened for the first ! time last night before a crowded house at Everybody’s Theatre, New Plymouth. , One and all declared it as greater enter- . tainment than the stage play, the scenes and sub-titles not allowing one single incident to be missed, whereas in the stage play much of the humour was missed owing to the interpretation. Miss Marion Davis appeared in the role of Patricia, or Pat, the Cinderella sister of the Harrington family, who gets the drum-sticks of the poultry, or else the parson’s nose, does the dirty work, gets up first in the morning, puts out the milk jug, and ejects the cat while her elder, good-looking sister is mother’s pet and gets the pick of everything, while Dad, seeing Pat’s sterling qualities, backs her up for all he is worth —whenever Mother doesn't sit on him first — and how Pat tried to win the man she just dotes on and does it despite sister’s new furs and fury —well, you’ll say it is the best entertainment that has been screened for many a day. Orville Caldwell, Marie Dressier, Lawrence Grey, Jane Winton and Dell Henderson head the supporting cast. Also showing was Glenn Tyron in his latest laughter special “It Can be Done.” In this picture Glenn is cast in the role of a timid clerk who is afraid of his own shadow. How he is jolted out of this state of mind, and the complications that ensue, made rapid-fire comedy. Pretty Sue Carol played the role of the girl who caused the upsets in his life. Tom O’Brien, Richard Carlyle and Jack Eagen appeared in the supporting cast. An interesting news reel opened the programme. Incidental music was supplied by Everybody’s Orchestra. This great programme will be repeated to-night and to-morrow night. THE PEOPLE’S. TIM McCOY IN “SIOUX BLOOD.” “Sioux Blood,” starring Tim McCoy, and showing at the People’s, New Plymouth, to-night and to-morrow night, is a stirring story of pioneer days, which centres around the amazing adventures of two brothers who were separated in their childhood by an Indian massacre, one being captured by the Red men and reared as one of them, the other going his own way vowing to avenge the murder of his people. In later years the two brothers meet in mortal combat, hastening the dramatic climax of this heart-warming adventure-romance of the great open .spaces of the ’Bo’s. Marion Douglas appears as the daughter of an early settler who finds abundant adventure, drama and love in the golden west. Tim McCoy puts great dash into the role of her fearless lover. Robert'Frazer, Clarence Geldert, Sidney Bracey and Chief Big Tree also appear in the excellent cast. The supports include “Assistant Wives” (comedy), New Zealand Scenic, Australian Scenic, Interest and | M.G.M. News. j
