ENTERTAINMENTS
ORCHESTRAL CONCERT. The New Plymouth Orchestral Society will rive the first concert of their season in St. Mary’s Hall to-night, for which a very interesting programme has been arranged. The public may look for .a very entertaining concert, and it .is hoped they will show their appreciation of the efforts of the . members oi this body to establish a really good orchestra in New Plymouth by attending in large numbers and so encourage those who arc engaged in this most valuable form of musical culture. The programme is a varied one which should make a very wide appeal. Among the selections to be played by the orchestra are “The Merry Wives of Windsor,; overture, a sextette from Lucia di Lammermoor,” a Moskowsky Span.ish Dance,” Greig’s “To Spring, ’ and Von Suppe’s “Morning, Roon and Ni o nt, Miss Edna King, of Wanganui, who recently appeared with the Orchestia Society’in that city with great success, will be associated with the orchestra in several well-chosen vocal numbeis, and the society will also have the support of Mr. F. Baird, the popular Scottish tenor, and Miss M. Fearn, L.R.A.M., of the Girls’ High School staff, in some pianoforte solos, while Miss Beth Haddon L T.C.L., will recite "Portia’s Description of Her Suitors” (Shakespeare).
