STEADY DEMAND FOR WOOL LONDON LATE RATES MAINTAINED By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, July IS. At the wool sales 9069 bales were offered, including 4032 New Zealand. There a moderate selection of Merinos of' miscellaneous character, a fair offering of greasy crossbreds and a small supply of other sorts. A steady demand continued at late rates. The New Zealand scoured Merino combing clips, Oxford-Anzac, brought top price, 37d, average 36d; super half bred slipes, Kaiator, 33d. Bradford business is very quiet with a slightly more confident tone. Sixty-fours are 38d; GO’s, 36d; 56’s, 30d; 50’s. 25%d; 46’s, 22d; '40% 21Jd. TARANAKI STOCK MARKET BEEF CATTLE PRICES FIRM. Newton King, Ltd., report for the week ending July 20:— Beef.—Prices remain firm for all classes under this heading, and as the open markets are still practically devoid of any first quality beef, local requirements are being fulfilled through the medium of paddock sales, prices ruling being as follow: Prime heavy fat bullocks up to £l5 15s, fat bullocks £l3 to £l4, lighter sorts £l2, prime heavy fat cows £ll to £l2, heavy fat cows £9 10s to £lO 10s, light fat cows.£B.

Fat Sheep.—Prices ruling under this heading arc practically on a par with those mentioned in our last report, and as with beef, fatteners prefer to sell in the paddock and butchers’ requirements are therefore being fulfilled through this medium. The following is the range of prices ruling for the various classes: Prime heavy fat wethers x’2, fat wethers 37s to 38s, light and' unfinished 34s 6d to 365, prime heavy fat ewes "28s Gd to 30s, lighter 26s to 27«.

Store Sheep.—Quotations of breeding ewes are a little more plentiful than they have been and prices offering by prospective buyers have eased a little, this being duo no doubt to the wool outlook; however, any lines of young ewes of good quality are meeting with spirited comuetition when put under the hammer, and although the prices offering have declined a little, vendors are meeting the market and in most cases full clearances are effected of the numbers that are being submited at our various centres. Quotations for hoggets and wethers are, if anything, insufficient for the demand, especially good lines of the former. With this fact in evidence, buyers, in many cases, are experiencing some difficulty in fulfilling their requirements and prices for both these classes remain firm. During the week sales under this heading have been effected at the following figures: Good 4, 6 and fresh fullmouth ewes, up to 37s Gd, best 4 and 5 -year-old ewes 34s to 355, good framed full-mouth ewes 30s to 325, full-mouth ewes in poor condition -24 s Gd, culls 20sl to 225, good quality mixed sex hoggets 28s Gd, good wether hoggests 26s to 275, smaller sorts 22s Gd to 23s Gd, ewe hoggets up to 30s, 2 and 4-tooth wethers, in forward condition, 31s to 335, store 2 tooth wethers 28s to 295.

>Storo Cattle—There is undoubtedly n shortage of all classes under this heading, Our fortnightly sales consist largely of store and forward cows, and in view of the fact that a number of graziers are in the market for good framed store and forward conditioned cattle of this class, and there are few suitable cattle oflering, spirited competition is in evidence for anything suitable for the purpose required' and'this class is therefore selling at prices in advance of late quotations. There is also a marked shortage of station cattle, and in view of-the limited number of quotations that are being received, prospective purchasers of any of this class are experiencing difficulty in securing their requirements, resulting in the small numbers offering being readily quitted at prices pleasing to vendors. Prices ruling for the cattle that are offering, range as follows: Good coloured and good framed young store cows £5 10s to £6 10s, mixed coloured sorts £4 to £4 10s, others £2 10s to £3 10s, forward conditioned 3 and 4-year-old bullocks £lO 10s to £ll, best stores £9 to £9 10s, others £8 5s to £8 10s, best 2-year-old steers £7 to £7 10s, mixed coloured sorts £6 10s to £0 15s, yearling steers of good quality £5 to £5 10s, while others are realising £3 15s to £4 10s. There also exists a strong demand for yearling Jersey and Jersey-cross heifers, and in view of the fact that there are not a great number of top quality cattle offering, the prices ruling for medium sorts are in advance to those ruling for this period last year. Of course there are a good number of good cattle that are being quoted through the medium of private treaty, and these are selling readily at advanced rates. The prices for this class range as follow: Best quality

fawn Jerseys £7 to £7 10s, good; sorts £8 to £6 15s, cattle of medium quality £4 15s to £5 ss, small and mixed coloured sorts £3 to £4.

Dairy Cattle. —Good offerings of this class are being submitted at our fortnightly fixtures, and, having regard to the fact that our scries of clearing sales is now almost completed, buyers of this class dre-operating more freely under the hammer,- and in practically every centre keen competition is in evidence, and satisfactory clearances are ejected at prices pleasing to vendors. In-calf heifers are also keenly, sought after, both by outside and local buyers, and sales are being steadily effected at prices equal to late quotations, while prices ruling for cows are also on a par with those mentioned in our previous reports. Pigs.—The offerings at our various fixtures are of an increased nature, and as feed is now a little more plentiful, farmers are operating freely for both stores and weaners, resulting in sales being effected at advanced rates, the prices ruling being as follow: Large stores 28s to 295; smaller sorts 23s to 245. best slips 18s to 20s, good weaners 13s to J .5, others 8s to 10s.
