POLICE VISIT TO SCHOOLS

The board to-day expressed its attitude on the subject in very definite terms, when it was complained by the chairman of the VVhau Valley (Whangarei) school committee that the police officer visited their school recently and insisted on interviewing a pupil without the presence of the headmaster. The latter had refused permission for the interview, and his action was approved by the board. Mr. A. Burns, chairman, thought no child should be interviewed unless in the presence of his parents or teacher. He felt that, In the present case, the officer had been over-zealous. He did not think his action in the present instance would be upheld by the Commissioner of Police.
